AT THE FOOT OF MOUNT MERU

The academy is located in the north-eastern part of Tanzania. Close to the equator, 30 km from Africa's highest mountain - and at the foot of our 'own' mountain - Mount Meru.

There is only 500 meters to the entrance of Arusha National Park, where elephants, giraffes and zebras are our neighbours.

We are located 1,300 meters above sea level and thus a fairly good climate. For football and other activities.

Tanzania has 60 million residents. A figure which, as a result of the increased prosperity, will grow alot in the next 10-20 years. The country therefore holds plenty of potential and talent for young role models. Role models who must help secure Tanzania's future. It is such talents and role models that we wish to produce. On and off the pitch.

NEEDS & OPPORTUNITIES

We have chosen Tanzania for several reasons.

First and foremost, the rapidly growing number of young Tanzanians truly need role models. Especially in football, where despite the country's 70 million inhabitants, there has yet to be a "world star."

Furthermore, there are good opportunities to build something up. Tanzania is one of 10 African countries that has both +5% GDP growth and a Human Development Index above 0.5. This signifies significant growth that is not misdirected. Good for business.

The current 27 boys, whom we have selected, live and train at the academy. They also go to school from here every day.

The boys' cabins

  • The boys have their own area with 3 houses. Each house has 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a living room.

The Main Building

  • The main building is where the boys eat, play, watch TV, and do their homework. The office and rooms for volunteers and guests are also located here.

Young Boys Academy is located in the heart of Tanzania, near Arusha National Park and the impressive Mount Meru. With its fantastic climate and scenic location, the academy offers an ideal environment for young boys to develop both athletically and academically. We are more than just a football academy in Tanzania – we are a platform where young talents get the opportunity to fulfil their potential and become the role models that Tanzania needs for the future.

In Tanzania, a country with over 70 million inhabitants, youth is a vital resource for the future. With a young population and increasing prosperity, there is enormous potential for talent development, which we aim to harness. Our goal is to help the young boys we work with find their way both on and off the football pitch. We believe that by combining sports and education, we can create leaders who will have a positive impact on society and future generations in Tanzania.

Football and education in Tanzania – two platforms for success

At Young Boys Academy, we recruit young players from all over Tanzania, especially from areas like Mwanza, Arusha, Moshi, and Dar es Salaam. When a player becomes part of the academy, he not only gets the opportunity to train professionally in football but also to receive a strong academic education. We believe that both football and academic support are fundamental to giving young boys in Tanzania the best chances to succeed in life.

Our unique location and facilities

The academy is located 1,300 meters above sea level and offers a perfect climate for both football and other activities. We are close to Arusha National Park, and our neighbours are wild animals such as elephants, giraffes, and zebras, which provides a unique experience for the boys, who get to interact with nature and have a safe place to develop. The beautiful location also supports the experiences visitors can have if they wish to combine a visit to the academy with a safari or trekking on Kilimanjaro.

As an NGO, we depend on support from both private individuals and companies who wish to help young talents in Tanzania. There are many ways to support us, from sponsoring a player to supporting the academy's daily operations. Your help will go directly to ensuring that we can offer these young boys a better future through football and education. You can also choose to become a foster parent for a boy and follow his journey at the academy.

At Young Boys Academy, we also welcome visitors who wish to get closer to the academy and our work. You can rent the Mount Meru Sports Lodge, which offers comfortable guest cabins, and gain insight into the life-changing journey the boys go through. At the same time, you get the opportunity to experience the best of Tanzania with safaris, trekking, and relaxation in the beautiful surroundings. KLM flies directly from Amsterdam to Kilimanjaro Airport, and from there it's only a 30-minute drive to the academy.
