• We are determined to create future role models of Tanzania. And we do it through two platforms: Football & School - and then by having a holistic attitude to everyday life at the academy.

FOOTBALL

Recruitment
We recruit talented young players from all over Tanzania, but primarily from the geographical circle called Mwanza, Arusha, Moshi, Dar and Dodoma.

The first 22 boys have moved into the academy since we opened our doors in January 2024. Over time, there may be room for 36 boys at a time.

10,000 hours of football training
With up to 7-8 years of football training at the academy, the boys will be close to achieving the magical 10,000 hours of planned and challenging training, which research shows that you need, as a minimum, if you want to be really good.

The goal is that in 10 years we will have produced at least one A-national team player in Tanzania. And before that, boys will have been selected for Tanzania's national U17 and U19 teams.

Strong coaching team

  • Jackson Tunda

Jackson Tunda is our Tanzanian coach and Head of Football. "Tunda" is very popular with the boys. He is strict on the field but at the same time a big brother off it.

  • Emil Fuglsang Pedersen

At the academy we are lucky to have Emil as a coach for 6 months. He is trained as an educator and also has a background as a player and coach in Denmark. As a coach, Emil contributes to strengthening both football skills and social competences.

SCHOOL

Recruitment
We don't just assess football talent. It is at least as important that the boys get a strong academic education, so that they have two platforms to succeed from.

Primary School: Silverleaf
We have found a school in the area with values closest to ours – Silverleaf Academy. The school is present at the recruitment, which also undergoes a pre-exam test.

Secondary School: Alianga
Silverlief currently only has a Primary school, so we have found Alianga Secondary School for the oldest boys. It is within walking distance and is a good school with good values.

Own school teacher
At the academy, we have employed our own local school teacher, partly to support the school work and with him a guarantor of our holistic view at the academy. In addition, he will act as a kind of substitute parent.

Teaching & Leisure

  • Asnawi Yusuf Ally

Asnawi Yusuf Ally is a trained teacher and is the primary contact for the boys in relation to the school, parents and staff at the academy. Asnawi is ready every day when the boys come home from school and when football practice, bath and dinner are over, Asnawi takes over and gives the boys a little extra teaching, so that they get the very best academic opportunities.

  • Doreen Ussi Mohamed

Doreen is "matron" at the Young Boys Academy and takes care of the boys, as a kind of "extra mother" at the academy. She is a trained nurse and very caring, as well as firm in tone when the boys forget to take the plate off the table or try to skip brushing their teeth. She is very important in our goal of creating role models.

  • The school system – both public and private – is very 'inspired' by the English school system and can be very harsh. We believe this is not the best breeding ground for creating 'Future Young Role Models in Tanzania'. More independent thinking is needed.

Education and football in Africa

At Young Boys Academy, we believe that both education and football in Africa are strong platforms for creating successful young men. Our academy offers intensive football training while the boys receive a solid education through partnerships with local schools such as Silverleaf Academy and Alianga Secondary School. You can sponsor a player or an entire team, or choose to support specific needs such as the football pitch, training clothes or schooling. All funds go directly to the running of the academy, and your support helps to create a positive change in the lives of these children.
